Chris Egan burst onto our screens playing the capped t shirt and spiky blond -Nick Smith in the long running Australian soap 'Home and Away ' . Nick was also know as 'Shorty' by his wonderful foster mum Irene , I had my own nickname for him too 'Lil Nick' . Lil Nick terrorized the Summer bay residents with fellow teen Devil Dunc . But he soon saw the error of his ways and settled down to looking up to his older brother and dating the Summer Bay girls .

But as Lil Nick grew older his story lines became more dramatic , he was paralyzed - Shock ! recovered! Shock! and had an affair with a evil head teacher and all around wicked witch of the beach the she devil Angie . Actually the main point of this story line was to get Lil Nick shirtless and then in follow up scenes show him alone unable to sleep in his bed tossing and turning in his blue boxers

Of course this sudden onslaught of shirtlessness for a young teen idols of a certain age is nothing new . But for Chris who was in fact 16 when he started filming but looked 13 the writers waited patiently until he looked old enough to be cavorting with girls and evil older women . It was as if my prayers to the god of shirtlessness had been answered , but even I wondered following episode after episode of Lil Nick loosing his shirt would Lil Nick ever wear a top again? . While the shirtlessness never reached a Kevin Zegers epidemic it was borderline .

My favourite memories of Chris as Lil Nick in Home Away were when he donned his legendary speedos , first a Green pair and later and Red pair . As avid Home and Away fans will know , we then discovered there was nothing 'little' about Lil Nick ! . Lil Nick was at the top of his game and despite packing a speedo in a way few teen idols could , Chris left the show to try his luck in America

Coaching himself Chris acquired an American accent and turned up in the drama Vanished , which in turn vanished after one season . Blink and you would miss him in Eargon where Chris played opposite the stunning actor turned model turned actor and turned model again Edward Spleers .

Now Chris is back on the small screen in NBC's 'Kings' a modern day retelling of the 'David and Goliath' story set within a monarchy . But being a monarchy there's always a Queen and who the Queen is the producers are keeping under wraps . Given there are only 3 male leads and that Nick is seen dancing with a fair damsel in the trailers I'm guessing hes sadly out of the running . I can see it being Sebastian Stan, Stevens Straights former nemesis in the camp classic the Convent . But I think it would be far funnier for it to be Sue Ellen's main squeeze and former antique seller Ian Mc shane .
