Return To Paradise Cover Art by Mark Beard
I've been meaning to post the above cover for Return to Paradise which adorned the slip case for Abercrombie and Fitch's Quarterly which came out last year . I loved the cover since I first saw it . Mark beard who painted it is a New York based artist who intriguingly works under six other artistic personalities . Mark painted the Abercrombie and Fitch cover as 'himself' but this work comes from a period where he was the artist Bob Sergent who 'died' in a wrestling accident in 1938. I wonder did Bruce choose Mark to be the cover artist or did Abercrombie suggest Mark as he has done murals for both the flagship stores in New York and London .
I could see Bob Sargeant's paintings hung in some mythical preparatory school maybe Holden Caulfields 'Pencey Prep' from Catcher In The Rye . Or maybe in hung up in the library of the 'Forge School' in Paul Russell's The Coming Storm . Bruce Weber's photography and Mark Beards art are truly a match made in heaven .
