Yes only in the land of the Supertwink*(*copyright Vera's Big Gay blog ) could a movie like 'Dive!!' be made , 'Dive!!' kicks off, in classic (or cliche) sports-movie fashion, with the Mizuki Diving Club in dire financial straits. Enter the beautiful Coach Asaki (Asaka Seto), who's determined to whip her young charges into shape and possibly yield a champ who can represent Japan at the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing -- and, perhaps, save MDC from imminent closure.
Three contenders are quickly selected: top diver Yoichi (Sosuke Ikematsu, "The Last Samurai"), the son of MDC's head coach (Ken Mitsuishi), who places enormous pressure on the boy to succeed; tall, dark and sullen Shibuki (Junpei Mizobata), a newcomer who hails from the distant Tsugaru peninsula; and average but promising Tomoki (Kento Hayashi), whom Coach Asaki immediately but mysteriously singles out as having "diamond eyes.".

From what I can gather 'Dive!!' was a summer box office smash of 'High School Musical 3' type proportions , with the young cast being mobbed and merchandise flying off the shelves .

I'm sure a John Walters remake is only inches away from being lensed and I feel once again that its time to dust off the Dreamboat's casting couch and assemble with help from world class diver Thomas Finchum a cast to make the sport of diving proud !
