Holiday in Tenerife 1963

While John was off galavanting with Brian Epstein in Spain, Paul, George, and Ringo decided to take a well deserved vacation with Astrid Kirchherr and Klaus Voorman in Tenerife. Here are some of the pictures they took during that trip.

Rare Photographs: The Beatles by Peter Laurie

You can't imagine how happy I was when I stumbled upon this stunning photo of the Beatles in a Vogue book at an antique store. Now, I was aware that the Beatles have been featured in Vogue before, but I have never even heard of the photographer Peter Laurie, let alone seen this beautiful picture taken in January 1, 1964. And so, I scanned it and posted it on LiveJournal and Tumblr and other people take it and claim credit. I know they posted an edited version of my scan over at the Beatles Photo Blog, but this is the unedited version, the way it appears in the book. On another note, I have also become aware that someone has discovered my blog and is posting the pictures that I have so carefully collected and organized over at tumblr. It would be so very nice of you if you at least linked back to my blog, becasuse I do spend endless hours on these posts, so it's the least you could do. Sorry this turned into a bit of a rant, on to the picture! And if I see it posted anywhere else without at least a link back to my blog....

Happy Crimble!

The first Christmas Message The Beatles did back in 1963. I just lovelovelove their sense of humor.

All ready for the snow. I think this was taken on the set of The Beatles special chirstmas show/skits thingy they did every year or something like that (does this sentence even make sense?). Anyroad, I'm going to the snow tomorrow, so yeah, that's why I posted it.

Rare Photographs: John and Cynthia Lennon, Trinidad and Tobago Trip, 1965

Some pictures of John and Cyn from their trip to T&T (Ringo and Mo also went along). I think Ringo took these photos of them.

Los Beatles in Spain

Part of The Beatles world tour in 1965 included a few concerts in Spain. Here's a report/newsreel footage of their stay. Yes it is in Spanish, but it's still worth a watch for the footage alone. I love John's Spaniard in the Works hat, Paul's winks at the camera, George gulping down his wine, and poor Ringo getting spalshed by wine.

And because it's sort of my "thing," here are some pictures that go along with the video.

Some more pictures with a Spanish vibe to them.

Interview: The Beatles 1965

When I'm down and feeling blue, one of the things I like to do to cheer myself up (or down) is watch Beatle interviews. So here are some excellent videos I found of random interviews with the Beatles in 1965 (one good-looking year for the boys, don't you agree?). Also included is the other, longer version of Ringo and Maureen's honeymoon interview that had been deleted, but it's here again! It's great to hear Mo talk, she has such a sweet voice.

The Apple Boutique: Where beautiful people can buy beautiful things

The first rockstars to open a clothing boutique were The Beatles in 1967. And like Themis, it seemed like a good idea at the time. But in the end it turned out to be disaster. At least it looked cool. Eric Clapton, Charlotte Martin, Keith and Kim Moon, along with other Swinging Londoners attended the grand opening.  Here's a video I found with some footage of the boutique's grand opening in color! And a picture of the inside of the boutique's dressing room area, in color as well!

p.s. Wouldn't it have been great if Jane had posed for the add with the other Beatle ladies instead of Jenny?  It would make the picture a lot more special and interesting I think. I wonder where she was, oh well, it's still such an iconic photograph.

Jenny Boyd worked at the boutique. And according to Wikipedia she, along with John's old Liverpool buddy Pete Shotton, managed the store.

The Muse Behind the Song: Melanie Coe

I read the news today, oh boy... John wasn't the only Beatle who could create songs from newspaper headlines.
Paul was reading the newspaper one day when he came upon the story of Melanie Coe. A 17-year old who had ran away from home to be with her casino dealer boyfriend (I'm sure he was quite the catch). And so, with a little help from John, the song She's Leaving Home came to be. The funny thing is, Paul had met Melanie a few years earlier on the show Ready! Steady! Go!. Paul was judging a miming contest and he picked Melanie as the winner.

Stamp Out The Beatles!

I've always wanted one of these cool Stamp Out The Beatles sweaters. As you can see, Brian was the first to sport the sweater, and I wonder if all four Fabs got one of their own. Or Brian simply gave it to George, who in turn lent it to Pattie (pictured with sister Jenny and Chris O'Dell at Friar Park), and from there it now belongs to Dhani (who wore the sweater, which turned out to be purple, to the rehearsals for the Concert For George. Then again, it might not even be the same sweater).  I wonder if the sweater had anything to do with Ringo's campaign to Stamp Out Detroit I saw in a youtube video that I'll post if I ever find it again.

He's a real nowhere man...

Well, in this case, Nowhere Boy. Here's the trailer for the untold story told hundereds of times before. I must admit, it looks interesting and I just can't wait to see it. Sure there are some inaccuracies, (ex: John had dreamy brown eyes, not dreamy blue eyes!) But they seem to be a good cast of actors, and I think they captured the style very well.

The Muse Behind the Song: Jane Asher

Another great rock and roll muse is the lovely Jane Asher. Acting since she was a little girl, Jane was already well-known when at the age of 17, she was asked to interview and pose for pictures with The Beatles. All The Beatels liked her, but it was Paul who finally won her over. And so began what seemed to be a teen dream romance come true. Paul moved into the Asher's home where he was exposed to a culture that only the upper-middle class could provide. There in the music room, Paul wrote many a famous Beatles songs. Some of the songs (good and bad) inspired by Jane are: Every Little Thing, Things We Said Today, And I Love Her, Here There And Everywhere, Honey Pie, You Won't See Me, I'm Looking Through You, For No One, I'm Down, Martha My Dear, We Can Work It Out, among others.

Taken on the night Jane first met The Beatles for the magazine she was interviewing them for.

Out and about with Paul:

Celebrating Jane's 21st birthday:

For Jane's 21st birthday, Paul bought her 21 dresses. This beautiful beaded red dress was one of them.
